Katie Hazlett

Director, Federal Government Affairs

Katie Hazlett joined Commonwealth Strategic Partners (CSP) in 2021 as Director of Federal Government Affairs.  She brings more than 16 years of experience working in both the legislative and executive branches of the federal government advancing public policy initiatives through the U.S. Congress.  

Katie spent 14 years working in various capacities for Congressman Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ), the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.  She ended her tenure as Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the Committee on Appropriations.  She staffed the Congressman as his top advisor for all 12 Appropriations subcommittees and through multiple leadership posts at various subcommittees including Energy and Water Development, Homeland Security, Defense, and Commerce, Justice and Science.  During her time on Capitol Hill, Katie was involved in all aspects of the legislative process and developed an expertise on an array of issues including transportation, homeland security, environment, energy and Army Corps of Engineers projects.   

Most recently, Katie served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs.  In that role, she supported the Secretary of Energy, the Department and the Administration’s policies before the Senate and House of Representatives, while managing and overseeing the external affairs engagement activities and the intergovernmental relationships with state and local governments.   Katie also served as Chief of Staff for DOE’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer.

She began her career interning for her hometown Congressman, former Representative Jim Saxton (R-NJ).

Katie earned a Master of Arts degree in Government with a concentration in Global Security Studies from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Catholic University of America.
